The Soumaya Museum (Plaza Carso location) is located on the north side of the city, in one of the poshest areas called Polanco. This privately-owned museum is home to the private collection of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim and his late wife. The Soumaya is a tourist attraction that’s worth spending your time on, with a rather impressive collection that spans over three centuries at least and it’s proximity to other attractions. The collection includes paintings by Dalí, sculptures by Rodin, artwork from the Impressionists, the Old European Masters, some Van Gogh, and even some pieces of the Avant-Garde movement. Here you will not only find paintings from Europe, although there is an emphasis on the region. The main highlights of the museum shine on Novo-Hispanic, Hispanic, and Mexican painters. The building was designed by the Mexican architect Fernando Romero, who was advised by famous architects Frank Gehry and Ove Arup.
